COMEDY comes to Ulverston next week with a laughter-laden Stand-up For Local Charities night.

Another show from Sam Hughes' Laughing Penguin Events, this time the impresario is staging the fundraiser for Ulverston Mind, which provides advice and support for those experiencing mental health problems.

Sam said that he started doing Stand-up For Local Charities comedy nights in August 2018 and since has raised £714 for local good causes: "My aim for 2019 is to try and raise £1,500 for local charities."

The comedy gig will be at The Mill next Friday, January 11.

The line up features Dominic Woodward as MC. Dominic started his comedy career young and wide eyed back in 2001, now regularly performing at top comedy clubs throughout the UK and abroad. Opening the show will be Simon Wozniak, who since starting stand-up in 2014, has gone on to quickly establish himself as one to watch, hotly-tipped by promoters and acts alike. He can be seen performing regularly at some of the biggest and best comedy clubs throughout the UK.

Another star turn on the bill is Edy Hurst, an award-winning musical comedian and regarded as one of the most exciting new acts around. Combining quick fire songs with oddball lingo and a skewed charm, he can quickly win over an audience and with a unique take on stand up, is becoming a firm fixture on the UK comedy circuit.

Headlining is Andy Watson, whose forceful blend of sharp one-liners, observational humour and physical comedy, landed him the prestigious City Life North West Comedian of the Year Award in 2005, joining an 'A' list of past recipients such as Peter Kay, Caroline Aherne, John Bishop and Jason Manford.

The following week, Sam puts on another night of stand-up comedy (not for charity) at the Duke of Edinburgh at Barrow.

The line up for Thursday, January 17, includes MC Harry Stachini, whose beginning to establish himself as a strong new act on the comedy circuit with his easy-going style; Southport Comedian of the Year 2018 winner Charlie Hopkinson, and topping the bill Sully O’Sullivan, who was declared a highlight of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival by The NZ Herald.
