YOU can raise a toast to Ulverston-born movie star Stan Laurel this New Year with his new cocktail - but it will cost you £22 a glass.

The American Bar at The Savoy in London has created luxury drinks inspired by Stan Laurel and his screen partner Oliver Hardy.

The cocktails were created by the bar’s new head bartender Maxim Schulte and celebrate the release of a new film about the duo - called Stan & Ollie - and starring Steve Coogan as Stan and John C. Reilly as Ollie.

The Stan and Ollie cocktails will be available throughout January.

Mr Schulte said: “The Stan, a light cocktail with citrus and savoury notes, reflects Stan’s kindness, while the Ollie is a more robust and rich dark cocktail that features Scotch Whisky with woody notes – a bitter sweet combination that reflects Ollie’s big, bullyish but loyal character.”

The Stan cocktail at £22 is made with Italicus liqueur, Bacardi Heritage rum, Trois Rivieres rhum agricole, Champagne syrup, coconut water, cream and egg white.

The Ollie cocktail is £32 and contains black Craigellachie whisky, Discarded vermouth, Fernet Branca, Figaro liqueur, bitters and absinthe.

Stan and Ollie were regular guests of The Savoy and the hotel is providing an opportunty to sample the luxury they enjoyed as movie stars.

A one-night stay costs from £880 per room and includes a Savoy breakfast for two, four Stan and Ollie cocktails in the American Bar and two tickets to see the new Stan & Ollie film in a London cinema.
