THE latest deserving recipient of The Mail’s Bouquet of the Week is a girl who bravely volunteered to have some of her hair cut off for a good cause.

Layla-Mae Lesnierowska, seven, decided to have a large chunk of her locks chopped off to send to a charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer.

The Sir John Barrow School pupil, from Ulverston, was nominated for the flowers by her mum Jade McKell.

She said she was “proud” of her daughter for deciding to undertake the heroic haircut completely of her own accord – even if she was hesitant at first at letting Layla-Mae cut off her long blond hair.

Jade said: “She came and told me that she wanted to get some of her hair cut off.

“It was completely her decision.

“I was so surprised at first and I didn’t want to cut off her hair off because I like it long.

“But I knew it was for a good cause.

“She got it cut a week after she first told me. She didn’t change her mind.”

The hair was given to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real hair wigs for children and young people

“I’m so proud of her,” Jade said of her daughter.

“It was a great thing to do for a really good cause.”

The mum said the gesture showed exactly what kind of person her daughter was.

She said: “This sort of thing is her all over. It was a pretty amazing thing for her to do it.

“It’s very much something she would do because she really cares about people.”

Jade said her daughter was always there to support her friend and her brother who has Down’s Syndrome.

“She cares so much about him.

“It’s the sort of person she is.

“It is amazing when she is only seven.”
