FILM-goers will be able to watch the latest movies in Barrow today after the cinema re-opened following flooding yesterday.

Heavy rain caused water to pour through the roof of the Vue Cinema at Hollywood Park.

The area was battered with strong winds and torrential rain as Storm Deirdre swept over Cumbria.

A cinema spokeswoman said it had to close for the safety of customers but has now re-opened.

One cinema-goer, Darren Phillipson, said he was at the venue on Saturday and saw staff putting out buckets to catch some of the water.

One of the set of doors was also taped off.

A Vue spokeswoman said: "The local area was battered with strong winds and torrential rain yesterday by Storm Deirdre and unfortunately this caused flooding and some leaking at the entrance to our venue, and as a result we had to close for the safety of both customers and staff.

"It has reopened today.

"We have been working to contact all customers who had pre-bookings for yesterday afternoon/evening, but anyone whom we have not managed to speak to yet is encouraged to contact our customer services team on 0345 308 4620."
