IT is a well-played Christmas hit but regulars from a Furness pub have put their own spin on Fairytale of New York by joining together for a charity music video.

Regulars at The Golden Ball pub in Dalton have produced a special video of the festive favourite by The Pogues.

In the video, which has so far been viewed more than 10,000 times on Facebook and YouTube, pub patrons belt out the classic hit at the Tudor Square watering hole.

The video is raising money for Ulverston’s St Mary’s Hospice, with a collection for the charity set up online as well in the pub.

The Mail:

It was the idea of Mike McCauley, the lead singer of Barrow band Abbey Road. He first filmed a Christmas music video two years ago and this time around decided to enlist the help of the Golden Ball regulars.

Jacqui Chisman, landlady at the pub, said: “Mike McCauley got all the regulars involved and asked them to take part.”

The Mail:

On why he was pleased to be giving money raised to St Mary’s, she said: “We are trying hard to be a community pub and support local causes. I lost my mum to cancer and my dad has terminal cancer.

“Without the hospice and their amazing caring staff a lot of families including mine would struggle both emotionally and physically to cope with terminal illness.

“The support they give in both the hospice and in the home is fantastic - not just to the patient but to the family too. It was amazing watching all the regulars young and old working together to help a local cause.”

The pub recently received a visit from Santa himself, who took time out from compiling his naughty and nice lists to pay a visit. He greeted children at his grotto in the pub and stuck around to join in with the video.

A JustGiving page has raised £315 and aims to top the £1,900 raised by the pub last year.
