A CUMBRIAN charity which supports residents suffering from the affects of alcohol and drug abuse has received an award for its dedication.

The Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Services (CADAS), which has a support centre in Barrow, has been awarded the title of ‘Most Dedicated Drug & Alcohol Support Service Provider’ in the North West for the Enterprise Awards 2018.

The charity received the award for its ongoing dedication to enhance the lives of people in Cumbria through the reduction of harm caused to them by the use or misuse of alcohol and drugs.

Leigh Williams, chief executive of CADAS Cumbria, said: “This really shows the dedication of our entire team despite the ongoing pressures we are facing as an organisation.

“It is almost like a double edged sword. On one hand we are seeing an increase in the amount of vulnerable people using our services due to austerity measures and on the other there is even greater competition when applying for funding grants from various trusts.

“Despite these challenges our dedicated team of volunteers has really helped us to continue to provide a fantastic and supportive service.

“Many of the people who come to us are just trying to cope with what life is throwing at them and I would like to thank everyone in our workforce who is doing their very best to support them. What they give is absolutely incredible.”
