A PUB landlady from Barrow has met her man after getting married this December.

Shaun Nelson, 49, a maintenance plumber at Furness General Hospital and Deborah Reid, 50, the landlady of The Blue Lamp Pub in Barrow were happily married on a beautiful day at the Abbey House Hotel on December 3 2018.

The couple first met seven years ago when Deborah was a landlady of another pub called the Peacock Inn.

After four years of meeting each other they developed a strong friendship and in 2015 the pair officially became a couple.

After talking to the couple they both agreed it was a mutual coming together.

Deborah said: “From working in the pub trade you tend to see a lot of people making fools of themselves, so it was nice when I met Shaun as he’s just a nice guy.”

Shaun said: “When we first met we just hit it off and after going through similar things it really helped to bring us closer together.”

Both agreed that they have similar interests, including music, although Shaun did have to persuade Deborah to come round to The Smiths.

Then on Deborah’s birthday on April 2 this year Shaun handed a little card containing lyrics from the Queen song Love of my Life and the question ‘will you be my wife?’ Inside was also a ring.

Deborah said: “I didn’t have a clue, but I suppose I had been badgering him for a while.”

A previous gift that Shaun had given her the previous year was a lovely wooden box with champagne and chocolates inside, but Deborah refused to open it unless it had a ring inside.

Next the couple starting preparing for their wedding day.

Both agreed that all forms of responsibility for preparations fell to Deborah.

On a crisp day at the Abbey House Hotel the couple were married surrounded by all their nearest and dearest.

The couple both said how perfect the day went and how supportive everyone from the Abbey House Hotel was.

The couple were also able to enjoy relaxed walks around the hotel's gardens with beautiful images being captured by Clare Gelderd.

They also had a beautiful buffet for all their guests to enjoy and Becki Fishwick delighted guests with her entertaining renditions of Paloma Faith and other popular tunes.

The couple are intending to have their honeymoon some time later in the year, possibly going to Bulgaria where they have been together before.

The couple would like to thank all their guests for attending and making their day so perfect.
