A TATTOO artist has shown off some of the Stan Lee tattoos he has been asked to create following the death of the Marvel writer.

Comic book extraordinaire Stan Lee died earlier this month in LA at the age of 95.

He was famous as the creator and editor of Marvel Comics.

His legendary creations made him a real-life superhero to millions of people across the world.

James Bradbury, who runs James at Inkspot in Market Street, Ulverston, posted some of the fabulous artwork he has inked on people in tribute to the writer.

He described the publisher as a legend, paying tribute to his hero.

He said: “I got people in all day wanting tattoos of Stan.

“I have a couple of appointments before Christmas and a few after the New Year, so there has been an influx.

“He is a legend. Most of my designs and pictures in my shop are Marvel, and that is down to him.

He added: “He was a great guy and if he was not around, pop culture would be totally different.”

To remember his hero, James decided to do a Stan Lee tribute day.

During the Dickensian Festival, customers raced in to get Stan’s face etched on their skin.

The talented tattoo artist will be donating 20 per cent of the money made to charity.

A total of £380 was made during Sunday’s event and James is looking for a charity in the UK which encourages art and literature for young people.

He said: “I am going to be donating some of the money I got from Sunday in tribute of Stan.

“I was going to donate to the Stan Lee Foundation but that is American only.

“That charity is to promote literacy and projects for children, so I am trying to find one similar in the UK.”

In its prime, Marvel was selling 50 million copies a year, all written by Stan Lee before he retired from editing in 1971.

His half-century-year-old creations are still popular as ever, with millions of DVD’s, toys, computer games and clothes sold worldwide.

The Spider-Man franchise is arguably the best-selling Marvel film ever made.

Box office figures show the six films made a jaw-dropping $4.8b (£3.7b) in ticket sales and merchandise around the world.
