THE memory of a well-known DJ and veteran of Barrow’s night scene will be honoured at an evening of music and entertainment.

Friends, family and former colleagues will be among the crowds turning out to pay tribute to Stuart Salt, who spun records for more than four decades in Barrow and beyond.

Mr Salt died in March this year aged 63 following a stroke.

His family want to raise money in his honour for Furness General Hospital’s oncology and stroke unit with a night celebrating the best sounds from the 1970s and 80s.

He was the husband of Maureen and father to Danielle, Janine, Kyle and Daniel.

Among the group of organisers night is Andrew Naylor, Mr Salt’s nephew, who drew inspiration from his relative for his own career as DJ.

He said: “We wanted to put together a night to show our appreciation to the ward at FGH where he was treated before he died.

“He was a well-known figure. Lots of people will have seen Djing in bars and clubs in Barrow.”

Explaining why the musical theme, he said: “There are very few nights now that just focus on music from the 1970s and 80s so we wanted to provide ones.”

Mr Salt started DJing in 1976, working across the north west and was a veteran of popular haunts in Barrow’s Cornwallis Street.

Manhattans in Cavendish Street will be the venue for night on March 1.

The date was chosen to sit between the Mr Salt’s birthday and the first anniversary of his death.

He said: “This is going to be a brilliant night to remember for all our family and all the people who will come along.

Mr Naylor said tickets were being snapped up quickly for the event with more than third of the 81 VIP tickets for night already sold.

“All the family want to get together and remember him.

“I’m sure more people will come along for the night because he was such a well-known person in Barrow.”

Punk band PV77 will be among acts.
