A spokesman for South Lakes Police said: "Please adjust your speed to the conditions of the road."

Police were also called just after 6pm eariler after a tree was blown over on the A592 at Newby Bridge, Ulverston, blocking the north lane. Police officers were able to remove the tree from the road.

The MET Office have also put out a yellow warning for risks of strong winds.

Windermere Ferry also had to stop their service as strong winds made operating the ferry too dangerous. Their latest is that with wind speeds still increasing it is still not safe to operate the ferry.
