THE state of Askam Railway Station's waiting room has been reported to rail bosses as a health and safety hazard.
A visitor to the railway station took a number of photographs showing litter, a damaged ceiling and vandalised furniture in the waiting room and called on Northern to clear up the mess.
They said: "Wouldn't say this this is not only unacceptable for the price you charge for tickets but also you have a obligation to keep the members of the public safe."
The moderators of the Askam & Ireleth page on Facebook have also expressed their frustration at the mess.
They posted: "How annoying is this. Easy to blame kids but chances are that's exactly who will be responsible.
"Askam is a wonderful place to live, why do people spoil it?"
Rail operators are responsible for the majority of railway stations across the network. Only the biggest 20 stations are managed by Network Rail.
Northern responded on Twitter and vowed to address the issue.
The company said: "I am so sorry to see this and will have this reported to the station."
