THE latest Bouquet of the Week goes out to a school which has been praised by a grateful mother.

Barrow Island Primary School was nominated for the flowers following heartfelt praise from Sophie Megannon, who has two daughters who attend the school.

Sophie thanked the school for being “a kind and welcoming place” for parents and pupils.

And she said she wanted to thank the school for way it has treated her two daughters, Gracie-Flo, six, and Ruby, eight.

She said: “I just want to recognise the amazing job that everybody at the school is doing.

“We often hear negative stories about Barrow Island but there is a great community around and no one ever talks about one the best schools in Barrow and things it does.

“This school is a brilliant part of that community and I know there are plenty of parents who live further away who send their children to the school because it is so good.

“It is not just a school, it is a supportive and welcoming place for everyone.

“My eldest daughter has her disabilities and other problems and staff at the school always bend over backwards to make sure she gets all the help and support she needs.

“In fact if I need anything I know the whole school is there and the teachers are always available to talk.

" They need recognition that they are on the best around and I am not the only parent who believes that."

Sophie also reserved praise for headteacher Janet Dixon and deputy head Victoria Evans, who is also the school’s special education needs co-ordinator.

“They are both always extremely helpful and always there to communicate with me.

“Janet Dixon is a wonderful headteacher who offers help not because she has to, but because she wants to.”

Victoria Evans said she was very grateful to Sophie for nominating the school for the bouquet.

“It was a big surprise to get the flowers but we are so grateful.

“It is nice that a parent has chosen to say thank you in this way.

“It shows how much hard work the pupils and staff put in.

“We want to make sure every child has the chance to excel. Our motto says children can ‘be the best they can be.”
