1 Ulverston Dickensian Festival celebrates its 20 year anniversary this year. Thousands of people are expected to attend and enjoy market stalls, hog roasts, roasted chestnuts and the Dickensian parade. The event will take place all weekend with Ulverston’s Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday night.

2 Barrow Market will have a very special guest on Saturday afternoon in the form of Peppa Pig. She will be at the market from noon until 3pm to greet children. Children will also have the chance to have their face painted.

3 National Trust site Sticklebarn is hosting a Lord of the Rings movie marathon on Saturday. The all-day event will include showings of all three of Peter Jackson’s adaption’s of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy epic. Tickets are £10 from the National Trust website and include a plate of nachos and a drink on the day.

4 Furness Abbey Fellowship is hosting the annual Christmas Fair at the Forum in Barrow on Saturday. The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 5pm and has a variety of stocking fillers, cakes, gifts and cards for people wanting to grab a little something extra.

5 Ulverston’s Green Lane Archaeology is holding a ghost walk on Saturday and Sunday. The guided walk will inform people all about the ghosts and ghouls of Ulverston as it tours the town’s dark streets. Tickets are £2.50 for adults and £1 for children at the event which begins at 5pm and ends at 6.30pm on both days outside Green Lane Archaeology on Lower Brook Street, Ulverston.

6 People can head to the Dock Museum to see two events which are taking place simultaneously. The Barrow Shipyard Women of WW2 exhibition and the Without Boundaries exhibition are both on display this month.

7 The Trinity Church Centre in Barrow holds a Christmas fair on Saturday from 2pm until 5pm. Admissions is £1 and includes refreshments. Attendees will be able to enjoy cakes, crafts, competitions, games, stalls, raffle, sweets and a tombola.

8 On Sunday families will be able to attend a children’s club at Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre in Ulverston. Along with meditation there will be games and stories for the children to enjoy. Entry for families with one child costs £3.50, with families with more children paying £5.

9 Winter Wilson, winners of best duo at the Folking awards 2018 will be playing a show this Friday at Water Yeat village hall.

10 Ulverston Outsiders are bringing The 39 Steps to the stage in a new adaption of Hitchcock’s spy-comedy caper.
