A MILLOM man faces being jailed after attacking a woman while he was subject to a suspended sentence.

Garry John Ruddy, of Palmers Lane, pleaded guilty to assaulting Amy Clarke on July 18 when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The 44-year-old had pleaded not guilty at an earlier hearing.

The offence happened in Millom.

Ruddy was given a suspended sentence at Carlisle Crown Court in November 2016 for fraud for his part in a 'cash for crash' conspiracy involving almost 40 other people. The fraud amounted to £200,000 and involved 13 car crashes.

The defendant will next appear at Preston Crown Court on December 21 to be sentenced.

The judge will consider the option of activating the suspended sentence and sending Ruddy immediately into custody.
