THE family of a 30-year-old man who died in a collision in Millom said his death has left a "hole in their hearts that no one will ever be able to replace".

Dad-of-one Alan Johnston was driving a BMW on the A5093 at The Hill on Saturday at around 11.35pm when he was involved in a collision with another BMW. 

Members of Mr Johnston’s family including his mum, dad, granddad and sister Shannon - issued the following tribute.

They said: “Our sweet Alan, your time in this world was taken far too soon.

“There’s a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.

“We will love and miss you today, tomorrow and always.”

Mr Johnston's close friend Tasha and her and Mr Johnston’s daughter Kadie also paid tribute.

They said: “You’ve left a hole in our hearts that no one will ever be able to replace.

“We love you to the moon and back, now and always.”

Mr Johnston died at the scene while two others were flown to the Royal Preston Hospital where their condition  was described as serious but stable.

Five other people were also treated at Furness General Hospital in Barrow.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash and a Coastguard helicopter was called in to transfer two of the casualties to hospital.
