A FORMER snooker star is set to appeal against a council's decision to revoke his wine bar licence.

South Lakeland District Council revoked Tony Knowles' premises licence for Churchills in Bowness on September 17 on the grounds of noise and public disorder.

The former World Snooker Championship semi-finallist will appeal against the decision at a magistrates' court hearing in Barrow on January 28.

The appeal is being made on the basis that the licence was revoked in Mr Knowles' absence despite his request for an adjournment because of ill health.
