A MAN who died following a two-car crash on the A5093 near Millom has been identified by police.

Alan Johnston, 30, died following a collision involving two BMWs at The Hill, near Millom at 11.41pm on Saturday.

The collision on the A5093 involved two vehicles and two people were trapped inside the cars.

The crash involved a total of eight casualties. 

Two other people injured were airlifted to the Preston Royal Infirmary.

Five other people were treated at Furness General Hospital in Barrow. 

Two of the casualties were said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Fire crews from Millom and Bootle were at the scene for two hours. Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release two people from the wreckage. 

Three years ago two cousins died after the car they were travelling in smashed into a tree on the A5093 close to the scene of Saturday’s crash.

The pair were travelling between The Hill junction and Millom junction at around 9.30pm on November 23, 2015 when the blue Volkswagen Golf left the road at the left-hand bend by the entrance to Ghyll Scaur Quarry and hit a tree.
