A COMMUNITY has rallied around a Barrow school after flooding caused mass damage in the building.

Ramsden Infant and Nursery School was forced to close for several days last week, but after an appeal set up by Sarah Snow, thousands of pounds have been donated along with furniture and games.

Two people each donated £500 to the school, giving them a vital financial boost to get them back on track.

Nicky Brewerton, headteacher at Ramsden’s, said she was overwhelmed with the support.

She said: “The amount of support we have received has been mind blowing.

“I can’t thank people enough for helping, every donation has been so helpful.

“It goes to show what amazing people live in this area and how strong the community is.”

Mrs Brewerton said the response to The Mail’s story on Thursday has been brilliant and said people from all over the county have donated various items that were damaged in the floods.

Mrs Brewerton said: “It is the little things that mean so much to the school.

“Parents buying toys, books, pencils and furnitures just shows how close we are as a community and we appreciate everything.

“The company who have us the skip said we can use it free of charge.

“It’s the thing like that which help a lot.”

Miss Snow, who set up the fundraising page, said she cannot believe the generosity of people.

She said: “The fundraising has done really well and I am so happy for them.

“I want to thank everyone who has contributed and to The Mail for spreading the word.”

She added: “It is a fantastic nursery and everyone knows that with the amount of support it has received.”
