A service to remember people injured or killed on the roads was being held at St Aidan's Church, Middle Hill, Barrow.
The Kier Group was Cumbria County Council's preferred bidder to build a planned academy in Barrow. Consultations were being held about whether the education base should be on one site or two. The cost on one site would be £30m.
Gibraltar Farm, at Little Field, Dalton, was offered for sale at £425,000. An apartment at Victoria Court, Ulverston, was £136,500.
A poster campaign featuring Barrow and Furness MP John Hutton and rugby league players was launched in an effort to get Barrow to go green. The town had done poorly in national recycling tables.

Elderly people and children were left standing in the freezing cold and rain due to the lack of a bus shelter on Barrow Island, councillors were told.
A semi-detached house at Grasmere Road, Ulverston, was offered for sale at £46,950.
Members of the Ulverston Wednesday Club celebrated their 21st anniversary with a party and a giant birthday cake at the Armadale, at Arrad Foot, near Ulverston.
50 YEARS AGO
Ten sheets of Christmas wrapping paper cost a shilling (5p) from the Barrow Printing Company at Lawson Street.
Ronnie Russell and Lilian Walsh provided the entertainment at a concert held in Barrow's Abbey Road Conservative Club.
A new home with three bedrooms on the Croftlands Park estate at Ulverston cost £3,000.
