A PROJECT to transform a country garden brought dividends for one Furness grower.
The Mail on Friday July 22 in 1994 noted: “Alison Kendall, of Kirkby Road in Ireleth has scooped the village’s best kept garden prize.
“Mrs Kendall was presented with a shield, a £15 Interflora gift voucher and a certificate by Askam and Ireleth parish council chairman Alan Jones.
“Green-fingered Mrs Kendall began landscaping her own garden 12 years ago, using planted flowers and carefully cultivating wild plants already growing.”
Mrs Kendall said: “We have lived in this house for 28 yeas and I started the landscaping 12 years ago. It was a normal garden before with a lot of vegetables."
The contest runners-up were Eric Stevenson and Sue Tracey.
