A BARROW man has appeared in court accused of refusing to stop his car for police and then driving over Jubilee Bridge before crashing.

Chris Richard Parkinson is alleged to have driven his black Ford Fiesta dangerously on the evening of Monday October 29.

He has been charged with failing to stop when told to do so by a police officer in Island Road, Barrow Island, as well as dangerous driving, which relates to the subsequent journey over Jubilee Bridge in which the Fiesta crashed into a wall on the Promenade.

The 31-year-old, of Conway Gardens, Walney, entered no plea when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court today (Wednesday) and elected for his case to be sent to the crown court.

Parkinson was granted unconditional bail until December 14 at Preston Crown Court.
