SHOPPERS and traders are being given a festive boost with free Sunday parking on South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) operated pay-and-display car parks in the run-up to Christmas.

The free Sunday offer will run on December 2, 9, 16 and 23.

Councillor Graham Vincent, South Lakeland District Council's portfolio holder for the economy, said: “We are delighted to be able to spread a bit of festive cheer by supporting traders and shoppers in the district by offering free parking in our pay-and-display car parks on Sundays in the run-up to Christmas.

“While this move does have cost implications for the council due to the loss of potential revenue, we feel that it is worth it to show local traders and shop owners we are behind them and hopefully increase footfall in our shopping streets.”
