A TEENAGE girl who was injured when she was blown over by a gust of wind while walking with a guided group was taken to safety by a mountain rescue team.

The 14-year-old, who has not been named, suffered an injury to her lower leg when she was caught by the freak gust in Grisedale Tarn at around 7pm on November 6.

The Patterdale Mountain Rescue team was scrambled and the girl was treated at the scene by a doctor and team members before being stretchered down to the valley bottom.

The incident involved 18 team members and took just over two and a half hours.

No further details have been released.
