WHEELCHAIR users have called on motorists to show some consideration by not parking next to dropped kerbs.

Mail readers have sent in pictures which highlight what they say is a growing problem in Barrow and Dalton. One woman was pushing a lady in a wheelchair in Dalton when she confronted the driver of a van.

“Due to where all the dropped kerbs are I had to walk some distance on the road with quite busy lunch time traffic,” she said.

The Highway Code advises drivers “do not stop or park… where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles, or where it would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities… except when forced to do so by stationary traffic”.
