PLANS for up to 35 new houses at Lindal-in-Furness have been temporarily delayed.

The application by developers Chandlers Country Homes had been due for discussion by Barrow council planners.

But a meeting of the planning committee heard that the application had been temporarily withdrawn by the council.

Planning committee chairwoman Ann Thomson (Lab, Hindpool) said the item was off the agenda for the time being.

Council planning manager Jason Hipkiss said the council needed to explore further issues.

The greenfield five-acre site off London Road, is partly used for allotments at the moment.

The aim is to create a number of two to three-bedroom affordable starter homes and eight homes for the over 55s, along with detached and semi-detached properties.

The scheme would offer parking for up to 17 vehicles for existing residents on London Road, as well as landscaping and junction improvements where the road meets the busy A590.

Council officers had recommended permission was granted with conditions.

Lindal and Marton Parish Council has unanimously opposed the development on the grounds of highways, sewerage and drainage issues and traffic concerns.
