A GROUP of children traded interactive whiteboards and the modern curriculum 10 years ago for Victorian-style slate boards and drill.

The Mail, on June 27 in 2008, noted: "Everyone at Ireleth St Peter's CE Primary was on their best behaviour as headteacher Janine Pierce prowled through the playground, cane in hand.

"But rather than being scared, the pupils were having a great time as they stepped back in time to the Victorian age.

"It was all part of celebrations for the school's 400th anniversary, which have seen teachers and the school's 87 pupils dress up in period costume, use chalk boards and experience all aspects of school life during the reign of Queen Victoria."

Boys wore flat caps, braces, shorts and waistcoats, while the girls had dresses and bonnets.

The school also hosted a garden party and an exhibition of photographs, books and memorabilia.
