A RARE home-built aircraft which, until its closure in 2010, was on show at the RAF Millom museum at Haverigg is now among the attractions at Solway Aviation Museum, near Carlisle.

The Mail, on May 18 in 1994, noted: "An aircraft parked in a barn since the Thirties is to be restored at Millom's RAF Museum.

"The Flying Flea, or Pou De Ciel, was designed by Frenchman Henri Mignet and became popular because it could be built by ordinary people.

"The one owned by the museum was built by Mr R. Jolly, of Ulverston, but he sold it when the design acquired a reputation for being dangerous.

"Since then it has been in a barn at Torver."

A display at the Carlisle museum notes that the aircraft was tested at Humphrey Head, near Allithwaite, but tipped over.

Later, the original Anzani engine was removed and fitted to a Morgan car.

It was believed to be the last surviving Flying Flea in Cumbria.
