The Lake District was criticised in the latest Egon Ronay Guide for its shortage of places of refreshments. The only one to get a mention was the Toby Jug, in Cross Street, Windermere.
There were plans to merge the parishes of Broughton West and Seathwaite.
It was hoped to establish a Dalton branch of the Abbeyfield Society, to help care for the elderly. The national group had been set up in 1959.
