A SUMMER camp is celebrating after receiving an Ofsted rating as ‘Good’ in their first ever inspection.

CAMP Cumbria, which hosts camps in Ambleside and Cockermouth, give hundreds of children hours of fun during the summer holidays.

The Ambleside camp, based at Brathay Trust, received a ‘good in all areas’ report.

In the report, CAMP Cumbria provides a wide variety of exciting outdoor activities in a safe and secure natural environment.

Children learn a wide range of survival skills and techniques, engage in adventurous activities and take part in inventive team building exercises.

Ofsted also said the management effectively gather the views of parents, children and staff to help them identify their strengths, future events and further development

Over 800 children turned up for the four-week summer camp last year, with an extra week planned for 2019.

Tony Martinez, Director at CAMP Cumbria, is pleased with the report and thanked everyone involved.

He said: “It is our first ever Ofsted report and we are chuffed with the results.

“The staff who work here are amazing and I truly thank them.

“The children come here and have the time of their lives, it is really popular.”

The camp offers various activities and skills for children to learn including survival and outdoor techniques, arts and crafts and many sports.

Mad science experiments, computing and cooking sessions are also involved.

Mr Martinez hopes to raise the standards to an ‘Outstanding’ level next time Ofsted inspect.

He said: “We want to create a place where parents feel safe knowing their children are in good hands.

“They all love coming here and that is why we are extending our time period next summer.

“We will continue to work hard to make sure we are outstanding when our next inspection is due.”
