A MILLOM woman has taken to the skies to honour her late mother and raise money for charity.

Marian Chapples decided to take on a skydiving challenge to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

The charity is close to Marian’s heart, after her mum, Miriam Keen, suffered from the disease.

Miriam had Parkinson’s for several years before her death on New Year’s Eve last year, aged 80.

She had three children, seven grandchildren and worked at a nylon factory.

Marian recalls nothing but happy memories with her dearest mum, particularly several memorable holidays abroad.

Surrounded by friends and family, Marian plunged out of the plane at 10,000ft recently.

A total of £650 was raised by Marian for Parkinson’s UK and in memory of her mother.

Marian said she was very proud of her achievement.

She said: “I was nervous at first but once I got out of the plane it was good and I really enjoyed it.

“I would definitely do it again.

“It was for a fantastic cause and I know my mum would have been really proud of me.

“I raised a good amount of money which will make a difference to Parkinson’s UK.”

“I felt like I did something good and something for my mum.”

It’s thought around one in 500 people are affected by Parkinson’s disease, with an estimated 127,000 people in the UK with the condition.

Most people with Parkinson’s start to develop symptoms when they’re over 50, although around one in 20 people with the condition first experience symptoms when they’re under 40.

Marian paid tribute to her mum, saying she was a loving, caring person.

She said: “I raised a good amount of money which will make a difference to Parkinson’s UK.

“My mum was a caring wife, Mother and Grandma who is missed every single day.”

“We had some lovely memories together that I will cherish forever.”

Marian has thanked everyone who supported her during the skydive and thanked everyone who sponsored her.

She said: “I personally would like to thank ever single person who sponsored me during my skydive.

“We have managed to raise a fantastic amount which will make a difference to people’s lives.

“I know that Parkinson’s UK need extra funding so I hope this will help them.

“I would also like to thank my family who came to support me on the day.”
