NATTERJACKS is back on the arts trail hosting an exciting and dynamic exhibition by seven leading contemporary artists.

Off The Map runs at the Ulverston venue from November 12 until December 19, and features Monica Metsers, Beki Harrison, Shivangi Pandey, Tina Balmer, Denny Derbyshire, Amanda Godden and Marilyn Hale.

Working in a variety of styles and mediums but united by the ability to create valid and relevant art in the region, all the artists are members of South Lakes Arts Collective, including award-winning Indian painter Shivangi Pandey from New Dehli. Her pieces are particularly bold and colourful and explore the presumed role of women in her native homeland.

Amanda Godden - based in the Ulverston - is well known for her original style and intriguing subject matter. There is always a certain quirkiness to her work and she is equally at home painting or sculpting using papier mache. Monica Metsers provides an exceptional surreal edge to the exhibition and particularly impressive is a piece by Chester-based artist Beki Harrison. Originally of Kendal, Beki’s piece Tranquillitas is created on watercolour using brusho water colour crystals, bleach, copic markers, ink and white gel pens. Denny Derbyshire is a well regarded Barrow artist and provides an abstract element to the exhibition and Tina Balmer provides the exhibition with large scale work. Meanwhile, Marilyn Hale adds contrast to Off The Map with her glass fused works.

Exhibition curator Tim Leeson said that he asked the artists at short notice if they could provide an up to date and exciting visual treat to give to the local people of Ulverston: “I’m really glad the exhibition is on during the Dickensian Festival as the visitor numbers are high and it will be great for visitors from further afield too, to see the work of these wonderful artists.”

Natterjacks is on Queen Street, open Monday-Friday, 3pm-10pm.
