STAFF at the Furness Railway pub in Barrow's Abbey Road faced a very early start to the working day 15 years ago to allow diehard sporting fans to watch a World Cup rugby union match.
The Mail, on October 14, in 2003, noted that the beer would flow from 4.30am on November 1 while rugby fans enjoyed big-screen coverage of Scotland playing Fiji at Sydney, Australia.
Staff would be in from 2.30am getting everything set up for the fans. Most of the England games were to be played during daylight hours.
A spokesperson for the pub said: “If they are diehard rugby fans they should be up at 4.30am."
