CHILDREN from Askam Village School stepped their way back though history at an old time dancing lesson back in 1997.
The Mail, on Friday, May 16, noted: “As part of a study of Britain since 1930, two members of the Askam and Ireleth Old Time Dance Club were invited to demonstrate some moves.
“Jean and John Brocklebank guided the youngsters through the marine four step, a square tango, a yearning saunter and a barn dance.
“To add to the authenticity of the event, the children were encouraged to dress in outfits the club members would wear – smart trousers, a plain shirt and dicky bow for the boys and a blouse and skirt or dress for the girls.”
Mrs Brocklebank said: “They thoroughly enjoyed it and learned three dances. It was a good tonic for us, too."
