A WOMAN from Ulverston is to start a chemical free day in her salon after a family friend was unable to continue her usual hair treatments due to chemotherapy.

Lydia Myerscough, who owns Lydia's Hair Studio, came up with the idea to raise awareness of the service that will become available.

The 24-year-old started her business two years ago and is based on Market Street.

Chemical free day's will be on the second Thursday of every month, starting in January.

Her idea is to help people going through chemotherapy who are unable to use chemical hair products.

People who have sensitive scalps or are advised not to use chemical products are also welcomed.

Miss Myerscough did some research to see what hair treatments are still available for people affected.

She was introduced by worldwide brand L’Oréal to a new 100 per cent natural hair colour product.

The product is made from herbal ingredients and is suitable for women going through chemotherapy, pregnant women, breastfeeding mums and vegans.

Miss Myerscough said she wanted to help people and her new idea is perfect.

She said: "One of my clients can't have chemicals in her hair anymore due to chemotherapy.

"I did some research and I have found a product that vegans, pregnant women or people with sensitive scalps can use.

"I thought I might as well do it for everybody and that is why I have decided to make it a regular thing."

Miss Myerscough said the response to the idea has been extremely positive.

Many enquires have been made by people who are affected.

She said: " A lot of people have asked me about the idea and the product.

"I want to show everyone that this treatment is available.

She added: "Especially for those going though chemotherapy who do not know this service is available.

"It could be invaluable for them to feel like they can do something so normal."
