A £70,000 like-like doll is the newest addition to the team at the South Lakes Maternity Unit in Barrow.
The 'Sim-mom' or 'Simone' as she has become affectionately known to the team is highly sophisticated piece of technology which simulates birth and gives staff the ability to hone their professional skills.
Used for training purposes, Simone can bleed, cough and give birth and is housed in an interactive classroom fitted with £5,000 worth of microphones and cameras.
She can help staff simulate rare birthing complications and practice for troublesome births.
