The group would join a mile-long fleet of coaches, which would transport a total of 4,500 Venture Scouts across the Channel.

Called the European Venture, the event was the largest ever organised for the Venture Scout movement, which catered for young people aged over 15.

The first part of the journey would be something of a mystery tour.

After assembling at the Essex County Showground, near Chelmsford, the coaches would travel via the Channel ports for mystery destinations on the continent.

A spokesman for the Venture Scouts said: "This could be described as the world's largest mystery tour."

Special activities had been planned for each venue as the Scouts made their way towards Paris.

In addition, they would be joined by Scouts from each of the areas the groups stopped at on their journey.

Once in Paris the Scouts would camp for three days and visit EuroDisney before the grand closing ceremony.

Also in 1994, members of the 15th Barrow St Luke's Cub Pack came out on top in the Barrow and District Cub Sports event. The Cubs had also attended a summer camp at Torver, held jointly with the 1st Urswick Cub Pack.
