In August 2011, Dalton residents were woken by the pounding of drums and firing of muskets as a re-enactment group took to the streets,
The commotion was made by members of Lt-Col John Lilburne’s Regiment of Foote of the Sealed Knot English Civil War re-enactment group.
The band of men, women and children congregated outside Furness Building Society towards Dalton Castle.
Musketeers then fired from the top of the castle as people crowded below to take in the spectacle of the display.
Another reenactment in the area saw the coast road near Ulverston blanketed by the thick smoke of war in 1980 and 1984 as hundreds of members of the English Civil War Society sought to reflect the conditions in Furness during the 1640s.
The audience was transfixed.
