Hundreds of ex-Barrovians had their annual knees up in 1994 - three thousand miles from home.
The 37th annual Barrow Jamboree was held at London in Ontario, Canada, and Carole and Bob Chubb of Walney were there to see it.
Mrs Chubb, of Duddon Drive, said: “There were loads of people there. Some of them are originally from Barrow but now there are third and fourth generations who go.”
The couple went to stay with Bob’s brother Mike and his wife Heather in Canada and straight away got into the swing of things at the four-day jamboree.
“I met a girl who I knew as Sandra Mason who I hadn’t seen for 30 years. I was 16 the last time I met her. And I met a man who was a prefect at my old school.”
The event was held in London’s massive Fanshawe Park and entertainment included darts, volleyball, cards, a camp fire sing-a-long and huge dinners.
More than 300 Barrow expatriates were at the get-together and Carole and Bob spent most of the weekend catching up with old friends.
The 40th anniversary of the Barrow Jamboree in Canada in 1997 was held under sunny skies and in 30-degree temperatures.
As it was the 40th event each family in attendance was presented with a copy of the Barrow coat of arms, with a 40th anniversary inscription.
Thanks were expressed to the mayor of Barrow, Cllr Margaret Martindale, for the original copies and her letter of congratulations.
Some of the founding organisers of the jamboree attended, including Doug and Win Raven, Frank and Brenda Tebay and Jack Newton.
As the jamboree started in 1958, a ‘50s theme was adopted for the Saturday evening’s entertainment, with many people dressing in ‘50s clothes.
After a punch party, the crowd was treated to appearances by Buddy Holly (Stuart McLeod), The Beatles (Dave and Sue Jackman, Mike and Heather Chubb), Little Richard (Rob Kitchen) and Elvis Presley (Bill Shannon).
