IN 1994, stylish models pulled on their glad rags to raise money for 15 local charities.
The work and generosity that went into the project was praised by the community and those who benefitted from the work by the Order of the Eastern Star.
The fashion show they organised was dedicated to charitable causes.
The show was held at the Lisdoonie Hotel in Barrow and included a raffle and tombola, as well as the star attraction, a catwalk show. Everyone's favourite.
All the clothes used in the show were supplied by That Shop in Cavendish Street, Barrow, and were all modelled by volunteers.
The fashion genres ranged from casual leggings and sweaters to silky dresses, and smart suits, and all with an autumn theme to mark the season.
But Barrow is not the only town to host some top-range fashion shows.
In 1991, Millom saw its own show in November.
The Fashion House of Millom presented their latest show that year, featuring clothing from some of Britain's top designers.
As well as top national clothes-makers they also modelled styles and brands from France, Italy, Scandinavia, and Germany.
The evening generated more than £1,000 for local charities.
Taking place in the Bankfield House Hotel, the well-attended show attracted an estimated 250 people.
It was organised by the Millom Inner Wheel Club, and the club's president, Mrs Joyce Whitaker, welcomed everyone and thanked the Fashion House for their time and effort.
The six models provided for the show were Angela, Denise, Felicity, Joan, Lynn and Pat.
The background music was provided by Chris Clouter and Peter Koth.
The two bridal outfits were modelled by the brides who had worn them earlier in the year. They were Zareena and Sandra.
One was in a white dupion with embroidered motifs in crystals and pearls and the other was in pure silks ivory with a waterfall train and finished off with petals and roses.
