THE sky was the limit for a chance at a holiday from Barrow Rugby League club in 1992.

Anthony Cooper became the latest winner of the Barrow RL auxiliary draw for a £2000 holiday.

The Walney taxi driver said: "It will probably be America for me."

He received his prize money and a ceremony where he met lottery promoter John Spoor and Sarah Cooke, manager of Thomas Cook travel agency in Barrow.

The raffle was organised by the rugby club and draw dozens of people to take part for a chance to win.

He was not the only lucky winner that year.

In April of that year, the success found its way to Angela O'Hara who received her prize money at the Barrow RL'a Build-a-win lottery competition.

Soon after in June, Marilyn Smith of Dalton joined the line of winners of the £2000 Barrow RL lottery and was soon discussing holiday options with her son Philip who was aged five.

Philip could not help himself but smile when it was announced they were victorious.

Their prize was presented to them at the club once again by Sarah Cooke.

The partnership between the club and the travel agency had made many people's dreams come through.

In October, the smiles of success had returned at Barrow Rugby club after the Luddy family were announced as the latest winners.

The family, from Methuen Street, included Paul, Michael, Pauline, and Claire.

The holiday was to the tune of £1500 which that had £500 of spending money.

The lottery had been going for several years and as far back as 1988 the club had been making dreams come true for families.

In November of 1988, a Barrow family won a trip of a lifetime in the lottery.

Frank and Margaret Dougan of Long Bank, and their nine-year-old son Frank were able to jet off to Florida during the following summer thanks to the lottery.

"I have never won anything before and I'm over the moon" said a delighted Margaret, 26.
