A FEW months on from Crufts 2020, we remember the Mail’s top dog presentation on Thursday May 12, 1994.

The Evening Mail, as we were called back then, reported: “At the Evening Mail’s top dog presentation this week winners are Karen Moore and Alan Washington of Bay View Grove, Barrow, with dog Apollo.

“The prize is special dog food, a portrait and a kodak disc camera. Our Runners up included Harvey and owner Sarah Parnell, Skippy and owner Mrs Dorothy Hallett and Prince and with owner James Atkinson who all received another dog treat and a portrait.

“The donor of the portraits was photographer Arthur Wright was also present at the evening. Also present was ASDA good halls manager, Mr Brian Halls, donor of the dog food.”

The cute and adorable pets were groomed to perfection and their owners were all extremely proud of their dogs.

“These commutative portraits will stay with them for years to come to remind us all who the real champions are.”

In 2020, the public’s support and devotion for the pets of Cumbria is still going strong as Crufts 2020 saw dozens of professional and amateur competitors reach a place in the championship dog show. Years later, the champions of the past could still inspire future champions.
