GREAT songs, colourful outfits and exciting routines added up to a great night out for Furness dance enthusiasts 20 years ago.

The excitement was caused by Take Five, the annual song and dance variety show organised by Dance Unlimited at the Forum in Duke Street, Barrow.

The Mail, on Thursday, January 2000, reported that all the tickets had been sold for both performances to parents and friends keen to see the latest routines and costumes.

It noted: "Singing as well as dancing featured in the programme as troupes from under six years to adults presented a variety of entertainment.

"Opening with a version of the popular musical Annie, the pupils presented dances to music from the 1950s through to the 1990s, from musicals to rock 'n' roll.

"Taking part were some pupils of Barrow's George Hastwell School and proceeds from the show are destined for the school."

The article noted that the classes at Dance Unlimited were run by Debbie Flood.
