A FUN night of games and races brought a Furness community together almost 20 years ago as it set up a new residents' association.
The Mail, on Saturday, June 10 in 2000, noted: "Parents, youngsters and school staff all joined in for the Greengate Community Project Group fun night at Greengate Junior School, Barrow.
"And they all took part in games, competitions and races which had onlookers in stitches.
"The idea of the event was to bring people in the community closer together.
"But it was also held as a platform for the formation of the new residents' association for the area.
"Many families have voiced concerns over the traffic in Greengate Street and other routes around the school."
Greengate headteacher Colin Smith hoped that those who came to the fun evening - which raised £124 - would take a more active role in the association.
One of the new members, Shirley Bowker, said: "The event was aimed at the whole community to ring people closer together and build up the association."
