RAISING money for a good cause can also be great fun when it involves a Furness obstacle course for toddlers.
The Mail, on Wednesday, June 23 in 1999, noted: “Vickers Sports Club was the venue for a very different charity event.
“Hundreds of toddlers descended on the venue in Hawcoat Lane, Barrow, to compete in an obstacle course.
“The toddlers, from St Paul’s, St Aidan’s, Sr Matthew’s, Springmount and the Baptist churches, joined thousands of under fives across the UK in the Big Foresters Toddle for Barnardo’s children’s charity.
“All the children were sponsored to stroll and clamber over a half-mile course with the help of parents, friends and a few ex-toddlers.”
The Barrow event raised £800.
Debbie McAllister, of St Paul’s Toddlers, said: “The money will help vulnerable youngsters and their families throughout the UK.
“I was thrilled to bits with the amount of people that turned up, including grannies and granddads.”
The national toddle, with events spread over a fortnight, aimed to raise £300,000.
