NATIONAL Lottery cash helped to build a new community play area in Kirkby and in 2002 youngsters from Burlington School were keen to test it out.
The Mail, on Tuesday, April 23, noted: "Children have been getting to grips with the exciting layout of the adventure trail and other improvements at the village school.
"The project was given the go-ahead after the school received a £25,000 lottery grant.
"Members of the community also donated money to boost the funds to provide extra facilities."
Headteacher Barbara Berry said: "This is something I have been trying to do for years.
"It's great news for the children.
"I retire in summer and have been trying for years to get the playground.
"The children really love the new play area that is also for the community."
Playdale, of Haverthwaite, built the new wooden play equipment, featuring balancing poles, stepping block games and rope walks.
There was also a set of football nets and a basketball post.
