THERE was a chance to make some noise when pupils at a village school enjoyed a drumming workshop with a top musician from carnival band the Barracudas.

It was all part of preparations for a role in the centenary carnival parade at Ulverston in 1999.

The Mail, on Thursday, June 10, noted: “Forty youngsters from the Low Furness primary School, in Great Urswick, took part in the workshop led by percussion expert Doug Gillam.

“Doug, one of the stars of the Barrow-based Barracudas, was called in specially to help train the pupils who are set to take part in Ulverston’s centenary carnival parade.”

The youngsters got into mood by wearing outfits provided by the barracudas but for the carnival parade they were to wear costumes designed by Zoe Robinson and made by parents.

Pupils were also able to add their own design features during a special workshop held at the school.
