YOU can help the Lightburn Park Railway celebrate its 20th anniversary tomorrow by taking a ride behind a miniature locomotive.
Back in June 1999 Ulverston mayor Cllr Ron Creer opened the railway track at Ulverston on behalf of the South Lakeland Model Engineering Society.
To mark the anniversary of the dual-track 610ft route for 3.5 inch and five inch gauge locomotives, the society is hosting an open day in Lightburn Park from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
You can find out more about the society on its website at and there are additional opportunities to see the miniature locomotives in action on other Saturdays afternoons until October.
The Mail, on November 1 in 1999, noted that the society was set up by Mike Garnett and Roy Burgin and members had built seven locomotives powered by steam, battery or petrol.
They included a scale model of an American Sante Fe loco which was built around a 50cc Honda petrol engine - with many of the parts donated or found at scrap yards.
