Journalism: The team behind the newspaper at Barrow’s Greengate School in 1994
YOUNGSTERS at Barrow’s Greengate School produced their own newspaper 25 years ago and put it on sale at 7p per copy.
The Mail, on January 27 in 1994, noted that it was the work of 10 and 11-year-old pupils under the supervision of teacher Amanda Gibbard.
She said: “It gives them an insight into the workings of a newspaper and it is something creative to be involved in.
“They can see the results of their efforts.”
Leanne Cartwright, 11, was made editor and other pupils were assigned newspaper jobs.
The children interviewed people in the school for stories and items on the Greengate area.
They typed up the stories on laptop computers and printed the finished product on A4 paper.
