A girl had to have her head released from railings at St George’s CE School after becoming stuck.

A semi-detached bungalow at Bowness Road, Dalton, was offered for sale at £159,950. A terraced house at Nelson Street, Millom, was £65,000.

Colin Glew, from Goadsbarrow, presented £200 to the children’s ward at Furness General Hospital, rather than receiving presents for his 80th birthday.

Joanne Hartley, 13, of Main Street, Haverigg, was chosen as the village's new carnival queen. Her attendants were Laura Sharp, Jonathan Sharp, Liam Tyson and Lynne Craghill.

The former Abbey Methodist Church, on Abbey Road, Barrow, reopened as the Trinity Church Centre after a £500,000 refurbishment which took 10 months to complete.

Keely Rothery was named as Dalton’s new carnival queen in a ceremony at the Drill Hall. Her attendants were Andrea Lytham and Sarah Coward. All were pupils at Dowdales School.

An inquiry was held at Barrow into plans by the Furness Water Board to abstract millions of gallons of water each day from the River Duddon.

Minister of Defence Equipment John Morris gave a clear hint that Barrow was to get the order for Britain's eighth nuclear fleet submarine.
