THE man who looked after a duke’s business interests in Furness is the topic of the next talk for the Duddon Valley History Group.
Its meeting is on Wednesday in the Rankin Room at Broughton Victory Hall from 7.30pm and all are welcome.
Barrow archivist Susan Benson will give a presentation based on the diaries kept by Edward Wadham.
He was the mineral agent to the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and lived at Millwood, near Furness Abbey.
The duke had extensive interests in iron ore mines in Furness.
His extensive diaries give a first-hand account of many major changes in Furness.
Mr Wadham lived from 1828 to 1913.
